Asking customers for reviews doesn’t have to feel awkward. Choose the platform and tone, add your business name, and get ready-to-copy SMS and email scripts that sound natural, without incentives or begging.
Generate review scripts
Replace [your review link] with your actual review link before sending. Never offer incentives for reviews — it’s against platform policies.
How to use these scripts
- Send within 24 hours of finishing the job, while the experience is fresh.
- Personalize first — add the customer’s name and the job you did. Templates convert far better with one personal line.
- Use the channel they use. SMS usually converts best for trades, but match whatever you already message them on.
- Ask everyone. A steady stream of genuine asks beats occasional big pushes — and never offer anything in return for a review.
How to read your result
Smith & Sons Plumbing, plumbing, friendly tone, Google:
“Hi, this is Smith & Sons Plumbing! Thanks for choosing us for your plumbing work. If you were happy with the service, a quick Google review would mean a lot to us: [your review link]”

Which trades is this for?
Any trade business that deals directly with customers — reviews are one of the cheapest forms of marketing available.
- HVAC, plumbing & electrical: services where trust matters and reviews directly influence calls.
- Cleaning: recurring services that depend heavily on reputation.
- Landscaping & painting: visual work that can generate photo reviews.
Assumptions & limits
- These are starting templates, not legal advice. Review platform policies change — check Google, Yelp and Facebook’s current rules.
- Replace [your review link] with your actual review link: your Google Business Profile short link, your Yelp business page, or your Facebook page’s reviews tab.
- Personalize each message before sending. Including the customer’s name and the job you completed works much better than sending everyone the same generic message.
- Never offer incentives for reviews. Discounts, gifts or entries in exchange for reviews violate platform policies.
Common questions
Can I offer a discount in exchange for a review?
No. Google, Yelp and Facebook all prohibit incentivized reviews. They can remove the reviews, penalize your listing, or both. Ask every happy customer instead. Regularly asking for genuine reviews works better than offering incentives.
When should I send the request?
Ask as soon as the job is finished, while the experience is still fresh — the same day or next day works best. For longer projects, ask at the final walkthrough when the customer is happiest.
SMS or email — which works better?
SMS usually gets read faster and brings in more reviews for trades, but use whichever channel your customer already uses to communicate with you. One follow-up a day or two later is fine. Don’t keep sending reminders.
What if a customer leaves a bad review?
Respond quickly and politely, acknowledge the issue, and offer to discuss it by phone. Future customers often pay more attention to how you respond than to the negative review itself.
